Wild Wooden Walleyes!
Wild Wooden Walleyes!
In the last round of RASCALS, we made a scrappy stop-motion movie. Students wrote quick sketches, made paper characters, painted backgrounds, and did their own voice-over work. While this project functioned as a crash-course in collaborative story-telling, we found ourselves wondering what would happen if we let our characters dig a little deeper…
In this session of RASCALS, students will focus on character development and details through the lens of a … Fish.
That’s right, each student will paint a fish on a piece of wood, cut out that fish (the kids will cut cardboard. Mic will help with the woodwork), create a backstory for their fish, and record that backstory as a short movie.
By putting up light guard-rails, students will need to find a way to channel their out-of-the-box thinking into their character (a 2ft wooden fish), rather than taking on the daunting task of a fully-open-ended story-line. This class is about playing with boundaries and seeing opportunity in limitations – finding joy in the details. Character development is all about the funny little details.
This class will run from 3pm-5pm on Mondays and Wednesdays between 11/2 and 11/18. That’s six sessions over the course of three weeks.
3pm-5pm (Pickup at 5pm)
11/2 and 11/4
11/9 and 11/11
11/16 and 11/18
There are only 14 spots for this class. but there will be more opportunities in the future, I promise. Please reach out to Mic with any questions at all.
